I just picked up HTML from visiting

a few web sites dedicated to the subject and viewing the source of some other pages I visited (usually an option referring to "source" under the View menu). I have to admit, basic HTML was easier that I thought. I've put together a few web sites that I think are very helpful in learning HTML. I've also included some that include what they refer to as "tips and tricks." The final group of links arent' really HTML related, but are links to image sites to help you dress up your web site a little.

Basic HTML Help

  • The first place I found that, in my humble opinion, was the easiest to understand was Webmonkey: html: teachingtool. If offers good explanations for the essential parts of a basic web page and "try it yourself" items after your review the topics to reinforce what you learned. There is also useful information for advanced users. Using Webmonkey, I was able to build a basic webpage (which is quite pathetic so I won't show you) in a couple of hours.
  • Another good site that has a printable HTML "user's guide is at the NCSA (National Computational Science Alliance) website. If you want a great big list of stuff to read, this is where to go. This site provides a great printable version of their guide.
  • OK, so this really has nothing to do with HTML, but Gifs That Don't Suck (the designer's name for his website) has a good selection of gifs to place on your web pages. I don't know if all of the gifs are animated cause there are way too many for me to review, but the one's I've seen are. WARNING!! Some of the gifs located at this website are not intended for children. In addition, this site may contain language that may be considered offensive
